Data Centre Cooling Bedford Borough Council

Bedford Borough Council has installed a system of four Celsius EcoCooling units at its main Data centre in the centre of Bedford.

It was a very complicated install into a live Data Centre, but there was no downtime or disruption.  The coolers were installed at a low level and ducted up the wall and into the area, all ducting, coolers and the supporting steelwork had to be colour-coordinated to match the building and minimise the visual impact.

The system has immediately started saving the council vast amounts of money on running costs and reduced its Carbon footprint.  Tony Pompa, Bedford Council’s Data Centre Manager sent us the following email shortly after installation.

“So far I’ve seen readings as low as 3.5kw to a high of 11kw with the EcoCooling on as opposed to an average of 70kw plus when the Airedales are on.”

The whole system is accurately controlled using an EcoCooling CREC PLC control system, this utilises the old air conditioning system as a backup to the EcoCooling system.
