Celsius Design Ltd was commissioned by SE Controls, world leaders in smoke control systems, to deliver an efficient and sustainable cooling solution for the Kidbrooke Village apartment development in Greenwich, London.

Celsius Design was approached to provide a low-cost, environmentally friendly cooling solution that could operate seamlessly alongside the smoke control system already in place.

The Celsius Solution

Celsius Design supplied and installed two roof-mounted EcoCooling units to introduce fresh, filtered, chilled air directly into the corridors.

The existing smoke exhaust system was adapted to operate at a lower day-to-day setting, providing the required air-change rate for efficient extraction of warm air. Together, these systems significantly improved air circulation and reduced corridor temperatures throughout the year.

Proven Performance

During warmer months, the evaporative coolers reduce incoming air temperatures by up to 12°C, maintaining comfortable conditions across all shared areas. The filtration process ensures clean, hygienic air quality, supporting a pleasant and healthy environment for residents and visitors.

Each EcoCooling unit provides more than 35 kW of cooling output while consuming only 1.2 kW of electrical power and using no refrigerant gases. This makes the system both cost-effective and environmentally sustainable, aligning perfectly with the development’s energy-efficient design principles.
